The explorer

Explorer is the entry point to the application. It’s like Windows Explorer, with functions specific to music files.

The Karaboss explorer is displayed when the application is launched. It positions itself on the last location used during the previous session.

You can play a file directly, edit it, add it to a playlist or create a new file from scratch using the midi sequencer.

The explorer

Play music

Double-click, right-click on the selected file or click on the “Play” button in the left-hand vertical menu or in the horizontal button bar.

Edit a file

Right-click or click on the ‘edit’ button
Applies to midi files (.mi, .kar) and mp3 files.

Create a new file

Click on the ‘New’ button in the horizontal button bar.
Applies to midi files only.

Add a file to a playlist

Right-click on the selected file, and a pop-up menu appears.
Select the ‘Add to playlist’ menu > choose one of the playlists on offer, or create a new playlist by clicking on ‘New playlist’.

Remarks

  • The characteristics of midi and xml files are automatically displayed in the bottom banner of the explorer (track format, duration), along with their metadata. This is information written inside the file by its creator, such as title, song artist and copyright information.
  • The presence (or absence) of lyrics is also displayed in the bottom banner (Lyrics: yes/no).
When the file has a .mid extension and contains lyrics, the text is displayed in red to draw your attention.
This is not the case when the extension is .kar.
We assume that the file has been deliberately renamed to .kar to differentiate between instrumental midi and karaoke midi.
The debate about whether to name extensions .mid or .kar is up to you 🙂
