There’s nothing in particular to say about the fact that Karaboss plays mp3 files, apart from its ability to display lyrics in certain cases and thus transform itself into an mp3 karaoke player.
No extraordinary features, either, such as deleting singers’ voices, but it should be noted that, on the one hand, synchronised display of mp3 lyrics remains a fairly rare feature (which is surprising, by the way) and, on the other, Karaboss makes it fairly easy to add synchronised lyrics to mp3s that don’t have any.
There are 3 possible scenarios:
- The mp3 contains lyrics with timestamps
- The mp3 contains lyrics but no timestamps
- The mp3 contains no lyrics at all
Lyrics with time stamps
This is the ideal case. This means that someone has inserted lyrics and times (timestamps) into the mp3 file so that they can be synchronised with the music during playback.
Karaboss reads the mp3 file like any other mp3 player, retrieving the lyrics and timestamps. You can then sing along to your favourite songs, guided by the lyrics, which are displayed on your screen and scroll as you go along, indicating the syllable (or line) to be sung by colouring it in.
Lyrics without timestamp
In this case, it means that someone has inserted the lyrics of the song in the mp3, but with no indication of when they should be displayed.
Karaboss reads the mp3 file and displays the song text statically. That’s something, but it’s not ideal.
We’ll see later that it’s possible to add time indications to these lyrics to turn them into karaoke.
No lyrics
This is the case for the vast majority of mp3s.
You can, however, recover the lyrics and add time indications to turn them into karaoke.
