Displaying lyrics

Displaying lyrics synchronised with the music is the basis of karaoke. Karaboss does this automatically. The added bonus is the ability to modify the lyrics, and even add them if they are missing.

Display karaoke lyrics

The karaoke window, associated with the MIDI player, is a completely independent window that can be displayed on another screen.
You can keep control of operations on your PC screen: the song explorer or playlist manager as well as the player, and display the karaoke window on an additional dedicated screen, such as your TV or a video projector.

The size of this independent window can be adjusted to suit the size of your screen.

The display is fully customisable:
You can change the colour of the letters, the screen background, display a slideshow, or even a transparent background.
In this case, the karaoke window becomes invisible and the lyrics are displayed directly superimposed on your screen.

Singing help

Singing synchronisation help is available: yellow balls scroll across the top of the screen during playback.
Each ball represents a syllable.
The appearance of these balls allows you to anticipate when the song will resume if there is a significant break between two verses.
They indicate the precise syllable to be sung when they reach the green ball on the far left.
This option can be disabled in the settings window.

Typical display configuration

  • The playlist and MIDI player on a control PC for the presenter.
  • Lyrics displayed on a remote screen for the singer and audience: typically a TV or video projector.

How to access the display settings

The settings window is accessible from a pop-up menu visible on the karaoke window when you move the mouse.
A bar of buttons appears, allowing you to :

  • Resize the karaoke window (normal, maximized, iconized)
  • Export the song lyrics to a text file.
  • Access the settings window: “gear” button.
  • Access the lyrics editing function.

The parameters managed by this window allow you to customise the way the lyrics are displayed on the screen: the background, the colour of the letters, the number of lines displayed and their location.

Background

  • Slideshow:
This option validates the slideshow set in the lower area of the screen.
  • Solid colour:
This option lets you choose a solid colour for the background. It invalidates the slideshow.
  • Transparent:
This option makes the window transparent. The lyrics will be displayed on your desktop.

Lyrics colours

This area allows you to choose the colour of the syllables making up the phrases displayed on the screen, to highlight the syllable to be sung.

  • Before :
Colour of syllables already sung (green)
  • Highlight:
Colour of syllable to be sung (red)
  • After:
Colour of syllables still to be sung (white)
  • Outline :
Colour of the outline of the letters (If the background is very light and the syllables are white, a black outline will make them more visible)
  • Number of lines:
The number of phrases to be displayed, including the current phrase (containing the syllable to be sung)
  • Location (top, middle, bottom):
Manages the position of the lines on the screen (particularly useful when displaying a single line)
  • Text background:
Adds a black background behind each letter to improve text visibility when displaying particularly colourful photos.

Slideshow

Allows you to define a directory containing one or more images/pictures that will be displayed randomly during song playback.
Use the ‘Reset’ button to return to the original image supplied with Karaboss.

You can set the frequency at which the photos change. Be careful not to choose a change frequency that exceeds the capabilities of your machine (stay below 10 seconds)

The image format lets you choose whether the images will be displayed as they are or stretched to fill the entire screen.

Notes

  • In the case of a playlist, the choice of slideshow directory can be set individually for each song. If no slideshow is defined for one of the songs, this general setting will be used by default.
  • Similarly, in the case of a playlist, the song sequence settings (pause, countdown) can be accessed from the “Tools” > “Options” menu on the home page (the explorer).
